Fun Interview with A.M. Griffin for Dangerously Mine

Today I interviewed A.M. Griffin, author of Dangerously Mine, an erotic sci-fi romance.

About Author and Author's Most Recent Release

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or line from Dangerously Mine? If so, please share.
A: My favorite quote is from one of the fighting scenes. Eva is surrounded by aliens who want to cause her bodily harm. Eva is a trained martial artist and doesn’t take being captured by aliens and sold into slavery lying down.

“If he promised you that this would be easy, he lied.”

I think this quote tells any reader all about Eva. She’s kicking ass first and answering questions later!

Q: Who is your favorite main character from Dangerously Mine? Why?
A: I love Eva. She is kind-of snarky, she’s got a smart mouth and she’s not helpless. She never once does she give up on life, even though her world has been turned upside down. She is a fighter and continues to push forward through all things (good or bad) that come her way. I love Eva so much that she makes an appearance in my next four books in this series.

Q: Who is your favorite secondary character? Why?
A: Taio, my hero. I love him. Even though he is strong willed, he is still able to compromise. He understands Eva and her needs and knows that in order to keep her he has to be able to work with her. He’s a hero with flaws which I find makes for the best type of hero.

Q: What was the hardest part of writing Dangerously Mine?
A: Since this is my debut, everything was hard! Dangerously Mine helped me find my voice and writing style. The editing process taught me a lot and through that I learned how to write, I mean really write. Although Dangerously Mine is a mix of my old and my new writing style, I feel it will give the reader an opportunity to follow me as I grow and finish out my series.

Q: What question do you wish that someone would ask about Dangerously Mine?
A: Are there follow-up books planned. The answer is yes! I have the second book completed and I’m currently working on 3 more simultaneously.

Q: Convince readers to buy Dangerously Mine in 25 words or less.
A: Dangerously Mine is a wonderful read if you are looking for a sci-fi erotic romance with memorable characters that you can grow with.

On Writing and Writing Erotica

Q: Why did you choose to write the Futuristic/Sci-Fi subgenre?

A: I am an avid sci-fi reader, writer and watcher. I love everything sci-fi. My favorite TV series is Star Trek: The Next Generation. I’ve seen all the episodes a million times, but I’ll watch them like I don’t know how it will end.

I also have a thing for Captain Picard.

Q: Do you outline or do you start with a basic idea and let it flow? (plotter or pantser)
A: I’m a complete pantser although I’ve toyed with loose outlines which are there to keep me on track. Like, ‘Eva gets mad at Taio.’ I have no idea how this will happen or why, I just know it WILL happen.

Q: Do your family and friends know what you write? If so, what do they think about it?
A: My family knows. I’m lucky that they are very open-minded and thrilled for me. My mother is actually my biggest supporter. I think she skips over all the sex scenes, which works for me. Ha ha ha. My little sister introduces me to all her co-workers and acquaintances as “this is my sister and she writes nasty stories.”

Q: In erotica/erotic romance, the sex is depicted graphically. Are there any specific words or phrases you aren't comfortable using in your stories? Word or phrase that makes you say “ick”?
A: I had a hard time writing the word ‘pussy’ for some odd reason. In my first submission I called it ‘love box’ and ‘sex’ throughout the manuscript. My editor wrote a nice short note that simply said, ‘find another word, not sexy at all.”

Q: What is your favorite part of writing erotica/erotic romance?
A: I love having my characters navigate through the process of being in love, understanding what that means and also working to better themselves in order to make their love stronger.

Q: How long ago was your first story accepted by a publisher and did you pee your pants? J
A: My editor sent me an acceptance email late December 2011. I didn’t pee my pants, but I did run around the house screaming for days afterward.

Q: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of the publishing process?
A: I hate waiting for edits. I’m very impatient. Since I’m fairly new this is my main hang-up right now. I’m pretty sure I’ll have other bigger gripes this time next year.

Fun Stuff

Q: Tattoos. Hot or not? And do you have any?
A: No tattoos. I’m afraid of pain. I’m also a wimp. Plus, what if I change my mind about the permanent design that I got scrawled across my neck in a couple of years from now? Hmm?

Q: Wine, Beer or Liquor?
A: Ohh! Wine – I love Moscato. I have to mention that I am a cheap date, 2 glasses and it’s night-night time.

Q: Dogs, cats or other?
A: I have 2 dogs. One very old Beagle (10 yrs). She’s a spoiled bitch. I should correct that to say spoiled, fat-lazy bitch. And another who is 3X the beagle’s size and 3X as wimpy.

Q: Kindle, Nook, Paper? Other?
A: Kindle! I can't live without it! I use it to read all my books, store all the books on my TBR list (I have about 50 right now) and I also use it to edit my WIP’s. It’s a great overall tool.

Q: Vibrators, nipple clamps or butt plugs? J
A: (LOL) vibrators. The pain thing remember.

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: Because there was a really hot rooster on the other side. But she did look both ways and when she got there she played hard-to-get.

Q: What is the meaning of life?
A: To live!

Final thoughts:
Never give up on your dreams.

Back cover blurb:

After aliens invade and conquer Earth, Eva is transported to a distant slave trading planet. Escape and freedom are her only priority, but none of her martial arts training prepared her for what she faces. She finds herself enslaved to the warrior King Taio. Eva’s drawn to this sexy alien male who ignites her heart and body.

Taio is disgusted with the idea of owning a slave—until now. From the moment he sees her, he knows Eva is his for the taking. Torn between lust and duty, Taio knows nothing will stop him from protecting his little warrior.
