Review and Interview with Author Victoria Sawyer

Today, I'm spotlighting a different type of story on my blog. I won a copy of this book in a blog hop giveaway and am so glad I did.

Title: Angst
Author: Victoria Sawyer
ASINB00BD76BHA
Amazonhttp://amzn.com/B00BD76BHA

Perhaps I can convince you that not only do I have a massive secret drinking problem, but I’m bulimic too. Awesome! All the things I’m not, simply to hide the one thing I am. And that one thing I’m hiding?

I. Am. Crazy.

And all I want to do is get drunk and go to college parties to escape who I am when sober, but drinking to erase my problems leads to even bigger problems and soon my frantic anxiety and panic is worse than ever before. I’ve lost everything, my ability to leave the house and even my will to live.

And as I lay there on the freezing basement floor, a loaded handgun pressed to my head in a cold kiss, he calls. After we hang up, I make a choice.

*Recommended for ages 17+ for adult themes and frequent use of harsh language.

Review

If you suffer from panic attacks or any type of debilitating anxiety (or know someone who does) and you feel alone or confused, you'll want to read this. Victoria has a knack for describing the mental and physical pains of anxiety. Her writing feels honest, brutally so, and is packed with raw emotion.

Many of the passages touched me on a deep level and I found myself teary-eyed on more than one occasion while reading.

Don't think that Angst is all serious, sad and depressing. There is some outrageous and raunchy dialogue between the main character and her girlfriends and it cracked me up a few times. It was much appreciated levity in between truly emotional sequences.

I recommend Angst.

Fun Interview & Giveaway with Cornelia Amiri

Today, an interview with Cornelia Amiri, author of Ever So Bonnie a Vampire, an erotic paranormal romance. Plus a Giveaway!

About Author and Author's Most Recent Release

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or line from Ever So Bonnie A Vampire ? If so, please share.
A: “Don’t tell my dad, but I got into some trouble with the goddess.”

Q: Who is your favorite main character from Ever So Bonnie A Vampire? Why?
A: Ever. She’s a baobhan sith, a vampiric fey woman who roams the Scottish highlands and drains the blood of their victims, men they dance with. They are also called the dancing vampires. She’s torn between her family, her baobhan sith sisters, and the love of a man. If she chooses him she will have to give up her immortality and become human.

Q: Who is your favorite secondary character? Why?
A:  Goddess Morrigan. To me Goddess Morrigan is an – I am woman – goddess. If she wants to sleep with a god, she sleeps with a god, if she wants to sleep with a human man she finds attractive, she sleeps with him. She can be a beautiful woman or a crone and it doesn’t matter she still demands respect and acknowledgment of her femininity in either form. In this story she is actually trying to take Ever’s man but she can’t fight true love. No one can, not even a goddess.

Q: What was the hardest part of writing Ever So Bonnie A Vampire?
A: Sex scenes are always the hardest scenes for me to write. There is so much more to them than any other type of action scene and they are so essential to the story.

Q: What question do you wish that someone would ask about your book?
A: Any questions about the folk lore or Celtic mythology in the book. I love Celtic myth and legend.

Q: Convince readers to buy your book in 25 words or less.
A: If you want a fast, fun, read with a hot highland hero and a fresh take on vampires, this is the book for you.

Itty-bitty Review of Venice Vampyr

Venice Vampyr
Author: Tina Folsom
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Vampire

Venice, early 1800s

Isabella Tenderini, a wealthy merchant's widow rescues a stranger from drowning in one of Venice's canals. And how does the man repay her selfless act? By kissing her - her, a respectable woman.

Not only is Raphael di Santori grateful for his life being saved, he would also like to thank his rescuer very intimately - more intimately than decorum allows. But then, Raphael has never been one to play by the rules - as a vampire he doesn't have to.

Itty-bitty Review
If you’re looking for a vampire story with a slightly different twist and some taboo sex scenes, this might be for you. One of the sex scenes at the end of the story was too taboo for me and I had to erase the image from my mind but that doesn't mean it’s too taboo for you.

This is the warning on Amazon: Warning: explicit and graphic sex, incl. voyeurism and other sexual taboos. Not for the faint of heart! This is an erotic novella.

Itty-Bitty Review of Excuse My Fairy

Title: Excuse My Fairy
Author: Kinley Baker
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: 124 pages

Book Description

Her magic breaks all the rules. He breaks all of hers. Draybeth is broken. Her fairy powers don’t work, her magic is completely dysfunctional, and not even her bad attitude and soft heart can win her back into Fairy favor.

Exiled from their land, she struggles to make a life for herself in the human world. But when her bar burns to the ground and she meets one of the Impassables--the devastating Lawman Barrett--things become even more of a struggle. An arrest, murder, and abduction challenge everything she’s worked for, and worse, the Impassable Lawman appears to be her destined mate. But darkness stirs deep within Dray’s heart, and she’s not about to drag the gorgeous lawman down with her.

Barrett never expected to find himself mated to a fairy, let alone one with such a wicked temper and a short fuse. Being an Impassable, he should be immune to fairy magic, but Dray’s magic burns through him like lightning, just as everything else about her ignites him, body and soul. The fairy’s power over Impassables threatens everything this new realm was built upon, and as a Lawman, Barrett’s job is to make sure those threats are eliminated. But his feelings for Dray make him question just where his duty lies.

Itty-bitty Review
The dynamic between the fairy heroine and her succubus best friend was fun. They are both feisty and aren't afraid to drop a few "F-bombs" here and there, which works for me. The writing toward the second half seemed to have lots of short, choppy sentences and that was a bit jarring at times, but it didn't stop me from reading on. There is no sex until late in the book and it is tame so you don't have to worry about getting too hot and bothered if you're reading on a break at work, or at a coffee shop, etc. (But then again, I don't know what turns you on so truly YOU might get hot and bothered.) Over all, it was an interesting story about a fairy fighting her dark side and finding her mate. It's worth a read.

Excerpt
A scream echoed down the hallway and reached Barrett at his desk. He knew they didn’t have a banshee in the vicinity, which always required extra precautions, but his eardrums had never met a sound more sinister than the bellow ringing in his ears.
Captain Syd stormed into the station room, his gaze locked on Barrett.
“Your fairy is driving everyone mad.”
Yep, Barrett had guessed right. His mate was causing a scene. Looked like Barrett would be forced to deal with the consequences.
The rest of the men and women at their desks studied his confrontation with the captain. They weren’t missing any details.
They all knew the fairy was Barrett’s problem, which would reasonably lead anyone to believe the two of them were involved in a relationship. Barrett’s place in the hierarchy among the men just dropped. He was probably going to lose his job.
Barrett pushed back from his desk. “I’ll go talk to her.” Damage control time. Maybe it wasn’t all over.
Captain Syd’s hot breath smacked him in the face. “You better not just talk to her. You better silence her!”
Barrett rarely heard the captain yell. This situation wasn’t going to be easy on anyone. Super.
With a scowl, Barrett headed for Dray. The woman had a sharp hook sunk into his chest. No matter how hard he tried to wiggle free of the catch, the hold buried deeper. She was his problem now. The captain had made the truth public.
Barrett strode toward the prisoner cells. The moment he entered the room, the fairy stopped screaming. He walked right up and glared at her. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
“Thank the heavens.” The hag two cells down stopped rubbing her temples.
Barrett chose to ignore the older woman.
Dray blinked at him, as wide-eyed and innocent as a doe. Barrett knew well enough not to be fooled.
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” Barrett’s own anger mounted.
“Tell me.” Dray threw the words out as though she didn’t have a care in the world.
“Everyone knows you’re my responsibility now.” His heart thudded at the admission. The statement wouldn’t go over well with his mate.
Dray’s eyes flared. “Embarrassed?”
That wasn’t even close to what Barrett felt. He had no idea how to put the chaos inside his chest into words. “You’re not making it easy to like you.”
“Ha! Feeling’s mutual.”
He should have known she would throw the sentiment back in his face. “I’m not your biggest fan, either, sugar.”
Dray snorted. “You couldn’t possibly dislike me as much as I dislike you.”
Now it was personal. “Listen, Beth—
Her eyes bugged at the nickname. He’d seen her full name on her record.
He smirked. “If you think you can come into my station and run that sassy mouth like the Second Ending is coming and the world will parish without hearing your wisdom, you’re sadly mistaken. I should lock you up for the simple reason that someone thought it was a nice idea to match your surly little temper with those soft and sexy curves.”
Her mouth dropped open.
Using his index finger, he brushed his calloused skin against her soft chin and pushed up so her lips pressed together again. And in that insane moment, he wanted to kiss her.
She smacked his hand. Pain sizzled along his nerves. “If you ever touch me again, I’ll castrate you with my fingernails.”
He looked down at her short, efficient nails, and then back up at her. “You’re welcome to try.”
Her eyes flared, her power shifting behind her gaze. It had been a long time since he’d seen someone this riled. The little firecracker in front of him was set to burst.
“You’re just like every man I’ve ever met.” Dray turned her back on him.
Barrett couldn’t stop the spike of jealousy. How many men had there been? “You’re nothing like every woman I’ve met.” No one else drove him to this level of ball-busted crazy.
Dray’s shoulders hunched, and he couldn’t get a read on her. She refused to continue their conversation, and that was fine with him. He worried about what he might snap at her in his current mood.
His mobile buzzed, a welcomed distraction, and he quickly read the message.
“Jiva’s here to bail you out.” He had no idea how Jiva had known where her friend was. He hadn’t known how to get a hold of the succubus.
Dray continued to stare at the back wall. Barrett couldn’t see any part of her face. A moment of helplessness overwhelmed him. What was he supposed to do with this fairy? He had no idea how to proceed. “Be careful.” He couldn’t prevent himself from warning her. “Don’t go anywhere alone. The soul-sucker is still out there.” He’d never forgive himself if something happened to her, even if his temper peaked at his max.
She didn’t glance back or acknowledge him.
“Please, be careful.” His words scratched from a dry throat.
A long silence stretched. “I don’t need you to protect me.”
Her words struck him in the gut. Air puffed out of him. Rejection raged through him, uncontained. Wasn’t that the point? The little fairy didn’t need him at all. He chose to walk away then. She’d made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him. Maybe he would make it easy on her and just walk away for good.
He turned his back. No matter how much he wanted to give up on their torrid relationship, that wouldn’t be possible. It looked like they would both have to see this through to the end, whether that end included happiness or death.

Fun Interview with Sidney Bristol

Welcome Sidney Bristol, author of Collar Me in Paris, a Contemporary BDSM Erotic Romance. Hi Sidney! Thanks for stopping by.

About Author and Author's Most Recent Release

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or line from Collar Me in Paris? If so, please share.
A: “There’s a larger vibrator in my bag, kind of egg shaped.”
Q: Who is your favorite main character from this book? Why?
A: That’s hard! I really like both Bianca and Clay for different reasons. I think in this book though, Clay really shines. I knew he’d had a tough life when I wrote the couple into Bound with Pearls, the previous book, but I didn’t know yet how rough it had been. It made me really root for him to find his place in the family.
Q: Who is your favorite secondary character? Why?
A: Amy! Hands down. She’s a little awkward, a lot reserved and she still knows what she wants.
Q: What was the hardest part of writing Collar Me in Paris?
A: For me it was writing the Female Dominant and male submissive dynamic. It’s a different headspace than I normally write. The rationale behind that relationship is completely different. Each half has to lead and follow in the right places to make it work.
Q: What question do you wish that someone would ask about Collar Me in Paris?
A: Are the Catacombs really full of bones?
Q: Convince readers to buy your book in 25 words or less.
A: What woman doesn’t want to be swept off her feet in Paris?

On Writing and Writing Erotica

Q: Why did you choose to write in this genre/subgenre?
A: I really enjoy BDSM elements in stories, and after extensive research I decided to give it a whirl. The first product was Bound with Pearls, and Collar Me in Paris is the second.
Q: Do you outline or do you start with a basic idea and let it flow? (plotter or pantser)
A: I have a basic idea, I flesh it out in an outline, or really a bullet point of things that happen, divide that into “days” in the story and go. There’s always room for tweaking.
Q: Do your family and friends know what you write? If so, what do they think about it?
A: Kind of. My family is well aware that I write romance books, thanks to a particularly nosey and over-sharing family member. My mom and dad are very supportive of my writing career, and happily oblivious to the extent of the romance. I think my mom’s enthusiasm prevents anyone else from having negative things to say.
Q: In erotica/erotic romance, the sex is depicted graphically. Are there any specific words or phrases you aren't comfortable using in your stories? Word or phrase that makes you say “ick”?
A: I’m not fan of anything moist or the word cunt. I know people who disagree, and that’s okay!
Q: What is your favorite part of writing erotica/erotic romance?
A: The honesty. I like that I can write about people who fess up to their wants and desires both to themselves and their partner.
Q: How long ago was your first story accepted by a publisher and did you pee your pants? J
A: LOL! I think I almost peed my pants. Flirting with Rescue was accepted in the early fall of 2011 and I was very excited and thrilled and happy and squealed a lot.
Q: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of the publishing process?
A: My favorite days are cover reveal days my Ellora’s Cave contract days because I get to pen my Contract Comic Strip on the envelope I send in to the office in Ohio. Yes, I have an ongoing comic strip I started because the Editor in Chief said more authors should doodle on their envelopes. I don’t think she realized that I was going to do a full on comic!

Fun Stuff

Q: Tattoos. Hot or not? And do you have any?
A: Hot. Hot. Hot! And yes, many!
Q: Wine, Beer or Liquor?
A: Dr Pepper? I’m a liquor drinker when I drink!
Q: Dogs, cats or other?
A: All of the above!
Q: Kindle, Nook, Paper? Other?
A: Nookie.
Q: Vibrators, nipple clamps or butt plugs? J
A: Can I pick and choose? Vibrators and nipple clamps.
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: To get away from the zombies.
Q: What is the meaning of life?
A: 42. For those non-Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy fans, I’d say happiness.

Back cover blurb:

What begins as Clay’s first family vacation with his new wife quickly dives into disaster. He may be the submissive in their relationship, but he’s no shy violet. Bianca has taught him the quickest way to turn her on is a challenge, so he’s throwing down the gauntlet.
Bianca butts heads with not just her brothers but her husband when the family torturing begins. But the joke is on him. She’s ready to put him through the most erotic misery of all. In public, at a night club and all over the city, she’ll show him who is Dominant in their relationship until he’s screaming for more.

Their relaxing Paris vacation turns into a mad dash through the ancient streets, a competition of wills and a new exploration of what it takes to make their relationship work. From bondage, discipline and very public orgasms to navigating the M├ętro, family feuds and overcoming the language barrier, they’re going to redefine the word fun.

Blurb:

To gain his freedom, Kean must provide Araya with his semen to save her life, but she refuses it, even though the lust between them is undeniable. Determined to escape and to help Araya, Kean ups the stakes and forces Araya into a situation that makes it impossible for her to continue refusing him. Feeling betrayed, Araya enacts a scheme to get Kean out of her life. Her best laid plans may awaken emotions that will bind them to each other forever.

And here's my sexy snippet from my erotic paranormal romance, Araya's Addiction.

“Untie me, Kean,” she demanded in a low and husky tone.

He removed one silk tie and then the other. She shook out her arms and commanded him, “Touch me, like you did before.”

So damn sexy. “Araya, I want to make you come with my mouth, like you did for me. Let me lick you. Let me taste your sweetness.”
