Interview

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or line from Warlock’s Pawn? If so, please share.
A:  My heroine has a lot of cool lines, but this one’s my favorite—“As I recall, I have saved your life once and my own numerous times. You have, thus far, done nothing but upset me with your ill-advised attempts to keep me safe.”
Q: Who is your favorite main character from Warlock’s Pawn? Why?
A: Alia. She’s quite kick-ass, if I do say so myself.
Q: Duncan is the hero and Alia is the heroine. Name one thing each of them can’t live without.
A: Without Alia’s ability to fly, they would both die horrible deaths.
Q: What was the hardest part of writing Warlock’s Pawn?
A: Making sure each sex scene brings something new to the table (descriptively, as well as from a story standpoint). There are a lot of them, and I had to get pretty creative.
Q: What question do you wish that someone would ask about Warlock’s Pawn?
A: I think this is true of most authors about all their books—“Where can I buy it?”
Q: Convince readers to buy Warlocks Pawn in 25 words or less.
A: If you like fantasy romances with a bit of kink and an alpha male, check out the first chapter online. It’s free!
Q: Why did you choose to write in this genre/subgenre?
A: I do whatever the evil plot bunnies tell me. They’re partial to happily-ever-afters with a dollop of sex.
Q: Do your family and friends know what you write? If so, what do they think about it?
A:  Yes they do. My husband has (false) hope I will make more money than him one day. My parents are pretty certain I’ve grown up to be a starving writer.
Q: In erotica/erotic romance, the sex is depicted graphically. Are there any specific words or phrases you aren't comfortable using in your stories? Word or phrase that makes you say “ick”?
A: It throws me off when a penis is referred as Jr./Junior. I suddenly obsess over whether or not the characters are using birth control.
Q: What is your favorite part of writing erotica/erotic romance?
A: Writing about the moment when lust becomes something more. I’m squarely in the erotic romance camp.
Q: How long ago was your first story accepted by a publisher and did you pee your pants?
A: Tower in the Woods was accepted by Liquid Silver Books in October 2012. I didn’t pee my pants, but I did call my husband and babbled incoherently over the phone. Very few things beats the rush of an acceptance letter.
Q: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of the publishing process?
A: The nail-biting between the time you send in a manuscript and getting the response. Rejection is pretty painful, but not knowing is a lot worse.
Q: What’s one of your biggest fears?
A: Pointed objects such as needles and knives.
Q: Tattoos. Hot or not? And do you have any?
A: Not. No needle, inked or otherwise, is coming near me.
Q: Wine, Beer or Liquor?
A: Wine--since I’m a starving writer, I’m partial to the less than $10 variety at Trader Joes.
Q: Dogs, cats or other?
A: None at the moment. I would love to have a cat, but I’m allergic.
Q: Kindle, Nook, Paper? Other?
A: Kindle. I devour romances, so I need a dozen or so books stockpiled in something that fits into my purse.
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: To search for its chicks.
Q: What is the meaning of life?
A: To love, make merry and not be forgotten.

Author Bio
Tara Quan wasted four years of college daydreaming about the fantasy and paranormal romances she wanted to write. After graduating with two degrees she never uses, she spent three more years trying to be happy with a traditional career.

Luckily, her husband's work took that option away, and Tara now has the license to pursue her dreams of becoming a romance author. While she still has a day-job, she spends all her free time writing and trying to convince publishers to give her stories a chance.
