Fun Interview with Missy Jane

Please welcome Missy Jane, author of Too Hard to Break. Thanks for being here today!

About Author and Author's Most Recent Release

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or line from Too Hard to Break? If so, please share.

A: Sorry, It’s technically two lines:

“As a little girl I had fantasized about all kinds of ways my true love would propose. Of course, it had never included a naked, fully aroused man built like Hank, but who was I to complain?”

Q: Who is your favorite main character from Too Hard to Break? Why?

A: Definitely Elle. The whole story is from her POV and she is a character that just stayed with me long after I initially introduced her in Two Dates Max. She starts out as a doormat but definitely grows a backbone in this book.

Q: Who is your favorite secondary character? Why?

A: Hank, also known as Hunky Hank. I think that name says it all. He is the epitome of the White Knight and does everything in his power to take care of Elle. Even my editor fell in love with him, lol.

Q: What was the hardest part of writing Too Hard to Break?

A:  The scene where Elle truly gains her strength. She was the victim of physical, emotional, and verbal abuse. She finally confronts her abusive ex-boyfriend and it’s a powerful scene.

Q: What question do you wish that someone would ask about Too Hard to Break?

A: Being that it’s a Blush book, is it as hot as the others in this series?

The answer is yes. This one is a Blush book because there aren’t as many sex scenes as the previous ones. But I promise the one scene in this book is plenty hot.

Q: Convince readers to buy your book in 25 words or less.

A: A hunky, overprotective male, a heroine who learns to not be a punching bag, hot sex, little bit of snark. What’s not to like?

On Writing and Writing Erotica

Q: Why did you choose to write in this genre/subgenre?

A: It kind of crept up on me when I was finishing my first paranormal manuscript. The story got to a point where I had to decide if the characters were going to have sex, and if so how much did I want to divulge to my readers. Once I wrote that first sex scene I realized I could do it. After that I couldn’t seem to stop, lol.

Q: Do you outline or do you start with a basic idea and let it flow? (plotter or pantser)

A: I’m a total pantser and can’t outline to save my life.

Q: Do your family and friends know what you write? If so, what do they think about it?

A: Yes. My husband thinks it’s great and likes to tell people I write smut. Most of my friends and family just laugh because I used to be such a prude.

Q: In erotica/erotic romance, the sex is depicted graphically. Are there any specific words or phrases you aren't comfortable using in your stories? Word or phrase that makes you say “ick”?

A: I never use the word “cunt” and I’m very careful of “pussy”. I don’t like writing sex scenes out clinically correct either and I try to stay away from flowery euphemisms. So, it’s a very fine line I walk sometimes. As a reader I HATE the phrase “old as time itself” for sex, so I’ve never written it.

Q: What is your favorite part of writing erotica/erotic romance?

A: The sexual tension between the characters. I like everything that comes before the sex when they both know they want it but just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Q: How long ago was your first story accepted by a publisher and did you pee your pants? J

A: Lol, just about! My first contract was signed in 2008 and I cried and danced around my house. My husband and daughters danced with me. Even now we still do happy dances every time I get a new contract offer. It never gets old.

Q: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of the publishing process?

A: I’m probably one of the few who enjoys the editing process. I’ve been blessed with fabulous editors and I feel I learn something every time I go through it. My least favorite is waiting for the release date!

Fun Stuff

Q: Tattoos. Hot or not? And do you have any?

A: Usually hot but it definitely depends on the tattoo and the placement. I currently have none but am not opposed to changing that one day.

Q: Wine, Beer or Liquor?

A: Liquor. I’ve tried wine but am apparently not sophisticated enough to enjoy it. Beer all tastes the same to me and I don’t like it. I prefer Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Q: Dogs, cats or other?

A: I don’t have any pets at all but like most animals…so long as I don’t have to clean up after them.

Q: Kindle, Nook, Paper? Other?

A: Paper mostly. I do own a Nook but use it rarely. There’s just something about holding a book…

Q: Vibrators, nipple clamps or butt plugs? J

A: Lmao! Hmm, might be TMI for my readers but I do have vibrators. Funny story: our house was broken into a couple of Decembers ago and one of the things stolen was a small lock box full of my “toys”. After the policeman took our report and left my husband laughed at me for not mentioning it. I’m slowly rebuilding my collection.

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?

A: Because it was stapled to the dead baby? (old joke, lol)

Q: What is the meaning of life?

A: 42 ;-)

 Final thoughts:

Nothing earth-shattering. I’d just like to thank my readers and your readers for stopping by today. I truly appreciate every single one and invite y’all to interact with me on Twitter and Facebook.

Blurb

Book three in the Love Beyond Barriers series.

A few months ago I finally moved on with my life and got away from my abusive ex-boyfriend. That should be a good thing, right? But now I’m living with Hunky Hank, my ex’s former friend turned my Knight in Shining Armor. He’s great at everything and treats me like a queen. Unfortunately that makes me feel needy when I’m trying to be more independent. When I need to be more independent. So when I started getting vibes of another woman, I knew it was time to move out and move on. So much easier said than done. It’s not so easy to leave behind the temptation of the most perfect guy I’ve ever known. He’s the only one who looks at me and instead of seeing a shattered image, he sees someone who is too hard to break.
