Fun Interview with Jenna Owens

Check out the fun interview with Jenna Owens, author of Taught, an erotic story written for Ellora's Cave EC for Men Line.

About Author and Author's Most Recent Release (or upcoming release)

Q: Do you have a favorite quote or line from this book? If so, please share.
A: It would have to be at the end of Chapter One, when Elizabeth leaves Dr. Collins office, peeks her head back in, then says:
“Oh, professor….?  Monday, we fuck,” and with that, she exits the room.

Q: Who is your favorite main character from this book? Why?
A: Even though the book is written from Dr. Collins pov, I would have to say that Elizabeth was my favorite character to write. She is a total take-charge female who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to grab it-quite literally!

Q: What was the hardest part of writing this book?
A: For me, with two little ones at home (aged two and one!) finding uninterrupted time to write was the most challenging. When I had time, I had to pound it out as quickly as possible (HA! no pun intended!).

Q: What question do you wish that someone would ask about your book?
A: Can I buy more than one copy? :)

Q: Convince readers to buy your book in 25 words or less.
A:  What guy hasn’t fantasized about a sexy co-ed, and what female hasn’t imagined having sex with a professor? Read about how fun it could have been!

On Writing and Writing Erotica
Q: Why did you choose to write in this genre/subgenre?
A:  Getting into the head of a man and imagining how he sees the world was something I wanted to try and tackle. I hope that men will think I have done a realistic job!

Q: Do you outline or do you start with a basic idea and let it flow? (plotter or pantser)
A: I’m definitely a “pantser”, although I generally have an idea of where I would like things to go. Often, though, I wake up with a dialogue or scene in my head that drives me to write the story.

Q: Do your family and friends know what you write? If so, what do they think about it?
A:  Most of my friends and family know what I write, and most of them have said that they wouldn’t have expected me to write anything else!

Q: In erotica/erotic romance, the sex is depicted graphically. Are there any specific words or phrases you aren't comfortable using in your stories? Word or phrase that makes you say “ick”?
A: Not at all. In fact, writing the scenes have given me some great fuel for my own life!  I feel that being comfortable with sexual terms and phrases is necessary to be able to truly explore your sexuality and experience sex to the fullest.

Q: What is your favorite part of writing erotica/erotic romance?
A: I love that the story does not close at the bedroom door. Erotica/erotic romance is as real as it gets. You are able to follow the couple on their entire journey, which includes places that  are typically off limits in traditional romance novels. I feel like that leaves an emotional void in the picture we get of the relationship. By allowing readers in the bedroom, we are able to show the passion (or lack of) and how the sex helps to develop the relationship.  Was he able to meet her every need? Was the spark lacking? Was the sex better than anything either had previously experienced? Was it awkward and fumbling?  What was going through the mind of the hero/heroine? Were they focused on each other, or thinking about what color they should paint the ceiling? These things help draw a clearer picture of not only the heroine and hero, but of their relationship’s past and future.

Q: How long ago was your first story accepted by a publisher and did you pee your pants?
A: “Taught” is the first story that was accepted by a publisher for me. I have been pretty much wearing adult diapers for months! ;)

Q: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of the publishing process?
A: Being completely new to this, I’m finding everything exciting and fun! More edits? Bring ‘em on!

 Fun Stuff

Q: Tattoos. Hot or not? And do you have any?
A: I do not have any tattoos personally, but I definitely have seen some I think are hot!

Q: Wine, Beer or Liquor?
A: To be honest, I don’t drink often, but when I do, I drink super fruity mixed drinks that don’t taste like alcohol...or I do shots. Then I don’t have to taste it!

Q: Dogs, cats or other?
A: I currently have dogs and a cat. I would LOVE a Ragdoll or Birman kitten, although I have been told that I’m not allowed to bring any more living creatures into our house. :(

As far as the ‘other’, I consider myself a country girl. My dad grew up on a farm, and I have some great memories from when I was a little girl.If I were to win tons of money, I would love to have a small farm. Although I say that and know deep down that I would never be able to eat an animal who I actually know. I would also have to pay someone to take care of the animals.  I don’t know if I could handle the work a farm would take every single day.

Q: Kindle, Nook, Paper? Other?
A: I absolutely LOVE my Kindle Keyboard! My husband bought it for me a couple of years ago, and it’s been my favorite gift ever!

Q: Vibrators, nipple clamps or butt plugs?
A: I have a bullet that I fell in love with years ago and have purchased a few replacements for. I have one for the bedroom, and one for “other places”, along with back-ups in case one stops working.
I’m also a fan of butt plugs. Well, technically, the one I love is a double vibrator. Although I use that less often than the bullet, I always find myself wondering why I don’t use it more when I do!.

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: To get to the cocks on the other side, of course! ;)

Q: What is the meaning of life?
A:  I think that the meaning of life is to live it in a way that others are happier because of you.  I think that regardless of your beliefs, it is important to be a good person. My interpretation of “being a good person” is to be generous and kind to others, no matter who is watching. :)

Final thoughts:

One thing I would like to say to aspiring authors is to never give up.  Write what you love, and keep writing! Take online classes to improve your craft, and don’t forget to read!

Back cover blurb:

Dr. Collins has always fantasized about the female students in his college classes. Many of those fantasies focused on doing naughty things right in his own office, but he never expected one of his students, a sexy girl named Elizabeth, would have fantasies of her own, and that he plays a starring role in them.

For the entire semester, Elizabeth had had fantasies about Dr. Collins. Now she wants the real thing. She’s not looking for a relationship. All she wants is him. Inside of her. And Dr. Collins doesn’t have an advanced degree for nothing. He’s a smart guy, and he’s going to take advantage of the opportunity that’s literally landed in his lap.
